This is my lifestyle. This is my story. And I’m owning it.
Yes, I realize your jaw is possibly on the floor by now. I’ve shared my story before and every time I do, I get this wide-eyed, deer-in-headlights look back. People look at me as if I’m an alien from outer-space. And I can understand why: there aren’t many people out there who live and embrace this type of lifestyle. It's not super popular.
- “a way of living that is unusual”
- “contrary to social norms”
- “differs from what is expected”
- “any socially-unconventional lifestyle”
A 29 year-old non-smoking, drug-free virgin — I’d say that fits the definition to a “T.”
I admit, this lifestyle is rare and unusual AND it’s hard. It’s challenging to live against the grain and swim upstream. It’s hard to live true to one’s values and principles when it feels like no one else “gets you” or supports your way of life. In fact, many times society mocks and ridicules anyone who does live this way saying it’s old fashioned, out-of-date and boring.
To all of that, I say really? I LIVE to differ. I don’t believe I’ve missed out on anything. Having worked for several Fortune 100 companies; competing as a professional athlete; starting entrepreneurial ventures; living overseas; traveling to 12 countries; visiting 3/4 of the United States; enjoying a treasure chest of friends, my Life is abundantly rich, not boring.
