I've written off and on for several years, but have put it on the back burner recently claiming I was too busy, didn't know how to start, what would people think....Excuses, excuses, excuses! But God kept nudging me to "just start writing." So I decided to start writing every day in December beginning December 1st.
Thus, off I went writing every day about this, that and the other. Some days I felt full of ideas and the words flowed easily. Other days were harder and I fought writer's block and laziness, but I persevered knowing I needed to keep writing.
Fast forward to December 29th, I sat down to write as usual. I wrote from the heart, posted it and went to bed. I woke up the next morning to find over 3,300 people had visited my site. What the heck?
Now I must pause and tell you that I was accustomed to having about 200 visitors on my site a day most of which were my mom and her friends (so I thought! Lol!). So over 300 people was a shock. Over 3,000 was unbelievable. I checked it a few hours later and it was over 15,000. Amazing! I was stunned.
It grew and grew and grew. Over 41,000 people visited my site that day to read Two Heroes - One Heart. I was amazed, speechless really, taken-aback at what an impact that article had on others. And I knew people weren't reading it because I wrote it. No! They could care less about the author--they resonated with the story. I just got to be the vessel--the instrument to share the story with them.
The following day almost 20,000 more people visited my site to read it. In a span of a week, over 70,000 visited and the article received over 11,000 likes on Facebook. The Huffington Post contacted me about it as well as other journalists. I didn't know what to do. I was stunned.
I felt like a pencil in the hands of a big God.
What have I learned from all this?
Well a lot of things, but one thing is for sure: when God tells you to do something, just do it! Don't drag your feet. I've done that before and I wonder how many opportunities I've missed because I simply wouldn't do what God asked me to do.
I believe God asks us to do things every day, but we are too busy, too preoccupied with our own lives, our own agendas and 5-year plans, that we just ignore those heavenly promptings. We miss out on opportunities and blessings because we would rather drive our own lives than relinquish control and submit to Him.
He told me to start writing, so I did. Who would've thought on December 1st that 28 days later I'd write something that would go viral? No one and certainly not me! When God says go, GO! When He says jump, JUMP! When He says give, GIVE! … You may not know the end result, but you'll never know if you don't start.
Thanks for letting me share my heart with you! If six people read this or six million, I don't care. If I make a difference in one person's life, it's worth it!
From here on, I plan to write several times a week versus every day--I completed my 40 days of consecutive writing and I'm scaling back a bit. Please visit often for new posts. You can also submit your email address (right side column in a box at the top) to receive new posts in your inbox.
Thank you for allowing me to spend a few minutes with you today! Cheers!
