So to my friends out there who love to stick to their schedules, let's band together and embrace flexibility this week. When we come together with friends and family, it's a good time to have a healthy give and take. There are some things that we should NOT neglect (some quiet moments each day to align our hearts, minds and spirits with the Almighty; some physical exercise of some kind…), but there are some things that we should flex. Whether it's trying something new--a new food you usually don't eat, a new experience (getting out of our comfort zones!!!) or just extending our bedtime a few hours to have those late night chats…whatever it is for you, there are things that are good to give up (in moderation!).
It was easier when we were younger all living at home and couldn't drive. But now with all of us in our 20s living in 3 different states, it's a privilege when we can all come together. It's not that we do anything big and grand, but it's the little things that I appreciate the most. Things like…
- Sitting around the table together
- Cleaning the kitchen with my mom
- Grocery shopping
- Baking & Cooking
- Playing at the gym
- Snuggling in bed watching movie trailers
- Looking through old memorabilia
- Talking -- such a simple word, yet so meaningful! Authentic conversations are so precious! We all need to have them more often.
So my friend, embrace flexibility this week. Sacrifice some of your routine and structure in order to be fully engaged--fully present with your loved ones. Approach each day with an open heart and open hands ready to be amazed. Learn something new from a family member. Share a "glory story" from years gone by. Reminisce Laugh. Cry. Embrace the moment.
When you embrace flexibility, the holiday season will go so much better for you and everyone around you! xox
