I thrive on consistency and routine. When I get out of my "normal," when I'm in flux or transition, it's just plain hard for me. Some people like things new and different every day. I, however, like to have consistency and routine. I like everything to have a place. You can call me organized. Ask my mom, she will tell you I organized the family's pantry when I was 8 years old and alphabetized the soups. It's just who I am. :)
Maybe you're going through a transition. A new job. New family member. New relationship. New city. New church. New group of friends. New boss...Whatever it might be, know you're not alone. Transitions are a part of life. I'm just in my 20s, but I'm learning that we transition from one thing to the next. Just as soon as we start to feel settled, something else rocks our boat and off we go again.
Remember, there's a time and a season for everything. God created and organized the world perfectly. He created the seasons and loves change. We aren't supposed to get comfortable and coast on through life. Lots of people do that, but they miss out on their full potential and seizing ALL of the opportunities God has for them.
We are created to change and transition from one season to the next. Although it can be rough in the in-between, instead of fighting it, I'm going to embrace it. I'm going to embrace the tension, discomfort and being "out of sorts."
The photo below is a bit extreme for my small move, but you might be able to relate with it. One door closes, another opens, but we have to go through the "hell" in the hallway in order to get from one door to the next. You can't go around it, over it or under it. You just have to go through it.
So join me and embrace the tension, welcome the discomfort, get used to the flux. The better we handle the "hallway," the much smoother the transition will be.
