As I reflect on the past week and year as a whole, it's easy to come up with my lists: what went well; what didn't go so well; what do I want to change; what am I disappointed about… And I look forward to 2014 thinking about all the things I want to change about my life. I ask myself: how do I want my life to look like a year from now? What changes do I have to make?
Although reflection and "taking inventory" of where we've been and where we are going is extremely important, sometimes we just need to BE. We need to stop doing. We need to turn off the music. Set down the pen and paper. And just be. Be grateful. Water the seed of contentment in our hearts. Instead of counting all the things we want to do differently next time or next year, let's just be grateful for all the things that did go right.
If your holiday was anything like mine, there were highs AND lows; laughter AND tears. It wasn't perfect by any means and there are a hundred things I would change. BUT instead of focusing on that, I'm choosing to just be grateful for what did go well.
Just be grateful.
