Goodness sitting in a classrom again feels a bit odd, but it's also like a "coming home" too. It feels good to be back in a structured educational environment not because I have to, but because I WANT to.
So much of our early education and even college is going through the motions, checking the boxes, going from one grade to the next, writing the papers, doing the experiments, pulling all nighters, cramming, memorizing….all of this out of duty and obligation rather than pleasure and desire.
We gotta finish. We gotta get that degree. Do whatever it takes mentality. Just memorize the info even if you don't understand it all….
The older I get, the more I realize just how much I don't know. And I find it takes a conscious, purposeful effort to put learning on my daily agenda. I have to make it a priority -- I have to schedule it in my day or it won't happen. It's easy to get that degree and just coast after that, but learning is not a degree or destination. Learning is a lifelong journey. The more we learn, the more we realize there's more to learn. It's a mindset.
So what are YOU doing to learn? To grow? To stretch yourself out of your comfort zone? Are you going through the motions because you have to or are you really vested in what you're doing?
Think about it. Get real with yourself. Maybe it's time for an attitude adjustment or reevaluating your priorities. Are you learning because you have to or because you WANT to?
P.S. I'm presenting the news to my French class tomorrow! Haven't done a class presentation in awhile et en français to boot! ;)
