As much as we would love for fairy tales to be real, they aren't. They are fiction--make believe--they provide a way for us to escape our present day reality and forget our problems at least for a few minutes or a few hours. And yet this is why our society is so attracted and mesmerized by fairy tales, chick-flicks and romance novels. We love them because life is hard--our lives are not "happily ever after."
However, the problem with this is we start to think our lives should look like a fairy tale or the latest Hollywood chick-flick. We want our relationships to look something similar to The Notebook, Titanic or Pretty Woman. We sit around, put our lives on hold, and wait for our Prince Charming, Mr. Darcy, Rhett Butler or Tom Hanks to come waltzing in and rescue us from our plight. We spend our time dreaming of what our lives should be like and we miss out on living NOW! We live in the "land of fake" (as a friend of mine calls it) instead of living in the reality we are in.
So just because your life doesn't resemble a Jane Austen story or Nicholas Sparks romance, that doesn't mean you should sit around and act like a princess in distress. Instead, get up, stop wishing for what you don't have (and what doesn't even exist) and start living your life NOW. Live the life you have instead of wishing for another one.
….something to think about as we approach V-Day! xox
