Can you relate? Maybe you feel this way too. Time is a funny thing. It is constant, always moving and flowing. We can't press pause; we can't stop it. I feel like Mr. New Year plays hide-and-seek with us. All of a sudden it's December 31st and he jumps out from behind a tree saying:
Ready or not, here I come!!!
Save more $$$! Lose weight! Get in shape! Fall in love! Quit smoking!
But although 45% of Americans make resolutions, a mere 8% of those people actually stick to them according to Forbes. Those aren't very good odds if you ask me. Sounds like most people are dooming themselves to fail when they make New Year's resolutions. The stats are NOT in your favor!
Stats taken from:
Visualize with me here--what does that day look like? How does it affect your friends and family? Your coworkers? Neighbors? Business partners? Will people be clamoring to give a eulogy at your funeral? Will the church be standing room only because it's packed to the gills? How will you be remembered? What will people say about you?
We put so much emphasis on what we do, but really people don't care about what we do. They don't remember that. What people remember is how we lived. They remember our hearts and depth of character.
It's not what you do that matters, but how you LIVE that matters.
Don't shrink back. Don't live small. Live OUT loud! Live BIG! Live with death in mind, as crazy as it might sound. When we do this, it gives our day-to-day, comings and goings more meaning and perspective. We have to ask ourselves:
Is my life worth talking about?
How will others remember me when I'm gone?
For me personally, I desire to leave the fingerprints of God on every person I encouter. I want my life to keep on giving long after I'm gone. I don't want people to talk about what I did and the trophies I collected. I want people to talk about me as a human being, not a human doing. I want people to remember my heart, my joy, my love and passion for life.
Remember, Life is a gift! Our days are numbered! So treat each day as a present. Unwrap the present of Life every day. Treat others as human beings this year, not human doings. Approach life with joy and passion and watch your world change for the better!
2014 will be your best year yet! :)
