And just how there's material waste on earth, sometimes I think we can feel like parts of our lives have been in vain--like time or energy was wasted because things didn't turn out the way we thought they should. Not sure about you, but I've felt this way a time or two.
It's easy to look at our lives through an earthly lens and feel let down and disappointment. We compare our current lives to the 5 and 10 yr plans we created years ago. In some areas, we might be pleasantly surprised and see how we surpassed our expectations. But in other areas, we might feel like we went astray, veered off course or just flat out missed the boat when it came in!
I've felt this way before like there's "waste" or "run off" in my life when things didn't go as I expected or planned, but that's only if I look at my life through an earthly lens. I might feel this way, but the fact is I know the truth--in God's economy nothing is wasted. That's right, NOTHING, nada, rien--NOTHING!
A father pours himself into his work. He neglects his wife, family and children all in the name to get that promotion and paycheck. But after years of chasing after the wind, the father's heart softens. He realizes how much time he's wasted going his own way. He returns to his kids, asks forgiveness for those lost years, and God redeems it like that! Yes, of course there are tears shed and it takes work to mend that hole, but God can and does redeem it!
If God redeems time and experiences in other people's lives, He sure can do it for you and me. I'm not sure where you're at in life, but I know one thing's for certain: we've all made mistakes. We've gone left when we should've gone right. We've yelled when we needed to whisper. We've chosen convenience over doing the right thing. We've taken the short path when we needed to take the long one. Sometimes we've wasted time, energy and resources going our own way, doing our own thing.
He does it for those who love Him and ASK! When we invite Him into our messes, He creates something beautiful. We give Him the broken pieces and He transforms them into a masterpiece. There's no trash in God's economy. He makes all things new!
Joy comes from tears.
Beauty from ashes.
Light from dark.
Good from bad.
Rich from poor.
Child from orphan.
Although the world might tell you differently, know that NOTHING in your life has been a waste. When God's in the driver's seat of your life, He redeems all things!
