Where to begin? It’s been a full day! Well the day started early with a 5am wake-up. Went to Grant Ranch to swim open water with Dawn, the girls and Brent Martin. It was a gorgeous swim and lovely not having to keep an eye out for gators. No worries about those creatures in Colorado! That’s a nice change to be sure! And if you haven’t been up before 6am recently, you’re missing out! Watching the clouds take shape, change colors and the sun waking up is beautiful. It will give you a boost to your day and vigor to take on the day’s challenges. Get up, get moving and do some physical activity to jump start your day. You’ll be glad you did! Yes, you might feel the need for a mid-morning or afternoon nap and that’s cool! There’s no shame in taking a little snooze mid-day. Research actually shows we would be more productive if we took naps! So go ahead, wake up early, get out of bed, get moving and then reward yourself with a little siesta mid-day! It’s a beautiful thing!
After the swim, I went on a short bike ride, walk with the dog and had some breakfast and nutrition in there too. The rest of the morning was spent chilling and hanging out with the Timlin crew. By the way, I love my conversations with Dawn and Mike. They are so full of wisdom! I understand why they have so many friends. People love to be around motivating and inspiring people like them. They are the definition of hospitality. I’m so blessed to know them!
After lunch and my afternoon siesta, I went on a short run and found myself in a Colorado rain and lightning storm. In Florida an afternoon shower isn’t a big deal. The water is warm and it usually doesn’t come with any fireworks. However, I found the CO rain to be a lot colder than FL and it came with a good lightning show too. But wow, it sure was pretty. Running outside with the mountainside back drop, rain coming down, a little thunder here and there and lightning in the sky–it put some wind in my sails! I stayed close to home wanting to be able to run back if it got too bad, but I gutted it out and finished the run I started. I’m not one to veer off course once I start. Of course I want to be smart–there’s a fine line between being a go-getter and being stupid. Over the years I’ve learned the difference between the two sometimes (many times) by trial and error. Today I’d like to think I was on the go-getter side!
After a lift (strength routine) and shower, I headed off to dinner at the LaCouture home. Little background: our families have been friends since my younger sister went to camp Kanakuk with their daughter about 8 years ago. I knew they lived somewhere in the CO Denver area, but wasn’t sure where. Then the other day I asked Dawn out of the blue if she knew the LaCouture (LC) family–I mean what are the chances. And what do you know, she said yes! Talk about a small world! I got in touch with the LC fam and found out they live less than 6 miles from where I’m staying. So I got to spend a lovely evening catching up with old friends. How cool is that? Sometimes the best things that happen in our lives are the unplanned, spontaneous events. That’s why we should strive to keep some margin in our schedules so that we have the flexibility and opportunity to do those spontaneous things.
All in all, another solid day in Colorado. I train tomorrow and then head to Colorado Springs. Over and out, NK :)
- clean water, check!
