Same goes for us--humans. If we aren't plugged into a reliable power source, we are more or less beings walking around planet Earth without any real Power flowing through us.
In order to have a fulfilling, life-giving existence here on earth, you have to be plugged in--plugged into a lasting Power source. There are many power sources we can tap into, but all but one will eventually die on us. All but one are not Life sustaining. They might last a day, a week, a month, a year, a decade--even most of our lives, but in the end they will fail us guaranteed. The one and only real sustaining Power source is in Jesus Christ. He is a reliable, guaranteed Power source that will give us all the Power we need to live a full, life giving existence here on earth.
So step 1: PLUG IN to the Power source.
So what if we spend time receiving energy and wisdom from God, but we aren't turned on? That energy just sits in us. There's no energy flow. We receive in order to give it away. We are blessed to be a blessing. A lamp's purpose is to give off light, not just sit in your living room plugged in.
Step 2: TURN ON -- don't just sit there plugged in and looking pretty. You're still just an ornament or piece of decor. TURN ON so that you can give off light--so that you can emit the energy flowing through you.
Same goes for us. We can be plugged into the Power source and turned on, but tuned to the wrong frequency.
What do I mean by wrong frequency and who cares what frequency as long as we are listening to something, we are good, right? Wrong! Listening to a frequency other than the one intended for us, can lead us astray and we become easily misguided even though we had the best intentions starting out. I mean we plugged in and we turned on, but we just didn't take the time to make sure we were in-tune with the right station. We end up spinning our wheels with the false belief we are going somewhere when in reality we are just on a treadmill trudging away.
So what are some examples of less-than-ideal frequencies? There are hundreds of thousands and they come at us every day. There are so many we don't even recognize all of them. Do any of these ring a bell: tuning in to what people think of me? trying to live up to others' expectations for me? trying to please others? trying to be somebody that I'm not in order to feel accepted? comparing my insides to others' outward appearances? striving to be super-woman in order to "have it all together"? striving to accomplish what the world says is valuable and lasting?
I don't know about you, but I've tuned into all of those stations at some point. They are addictive. You start listening to that music knowing it's not the best thing for you, but you think, just one more song--just one more week of this--just until I get a new job--just until I feel like I have my act together and then I will stop listening to that.
The problem is "just until" never comes. We become addicted to those stations and they end up drowning out the music of heaven that beats in our hearts. We drowned out heaven's music with the worries and stresses of today. We exchange God's dreams for us in order to try and live up to the world's and others' expectations of us. We exchange a glorious existence for a mediocre life. We exchange great for ok.
So as you see, it's not just enough to be plugged in and turned on. We need to be IN TUNE with the frequency of heaven.
Step 3 for a full, life-giving existence here on earth: TUNE IN to the music of heaven -- it's playing, the question is, "are you listening?"
