Is happiness a habit? I mean some days I'm happy and some days not so much. Happiness comes and goes. It just depends on the day, my mood, how work goes, whether or not someone cuts me off in traffic… How much control do I really have over my happiness?
Does this sound like you? Well my friend, I have good news for you (and I'm speaking to myself here) -- happiness has nothing to do with circumstances. Happiness is not an external thing. Happiness is an INSIDE job.
As soon as you get a promotion, you want another one.
You lose 10 pounds, but sure wish you could take off another 5--then you'd really be happy.
You're an excited first time home buyer, but you wish your house was just a little bigger.
You got that boyfriend you've always wanted, but why isn't he more like so-and-so's BF?
Money. Job. House. Car. Clothes. Family… We chase after things and people to make us happy--to give us that "high," that "fix" we are looking for. We get it. It lasts for awhile, but then we set our sights on something else that will really make us happy once that "fix" wears off.
We are down in the dumps on Monday, but happy on Friday. If so-and-so doesn't recognize us in the hallway, we sulk the rest of the day. And heaven forbid if a coworker gets a promotion and we don't. -- Any of this sound familiar?
This is 2014. It's time for a NEW you! It's time for you to take control of your happiness. STOP letting external factors determine your happiness. Own your happiness. You decide your outlook and perspective. You control your thoughts--no one else does!
And guess what? Happiness precedes success. -- Happy people are successful people! So start cultivating the habit of happiness today! Choose to live in gratitude regardless of what goes on around you and watch happiness grow in your heart!
