Growing up outside of the city limits s a kid, we had many hot air balloons take off and land in and around our house. I remember putting out big sheets on the yard signaling to the ballooners that it was safe to land there. As kids, my sisters and I loved it when balloons would choose our yard to land in. Talk about a thrill!
The ropes and tethers used are big and fat around. I don't even know how much weight they could hold, but it must be a lot as the average balloon weighs 600 pounds deflated on the ground, but a whopping 5000 pounds when inflated in the air!!!
What are your tethers? What are your ropes? What are the things holding you back? Here are a few:
- living in your past - regrets
- scared of the future - "what ifs"
- other people
- yourself - this is a big one! You can be your own cheerleader OR your biggest deterrent.
A balloon is created to FLY, not sit on the ground or not be held back. Take stock. Take inventory of your life. Identify the things holding you back. Address them and CUT THOSE TETHERS. Cut those ropes. Free yourself from those anchors.
In my own life, I do this, but find one or two tethers that keep coming back. I have to be aware of this and make a conscious effort to cut them so I can fly high and soar!
So even if you do this practice once or twice, know that you need to come back to it. Tethers have a way of creeping up on us and pulling us back down to earth. This keeps us from living life and living in the fullness of our God-created destiny.
Jesus said, "I have come [to earth] that they [you and me] might have life and have it to the fullest." (John 10:10) God created us to soar high above the mountains. Don't settle for anything less.
"I have come [to earth] that they [you and me] might have life and have it to the FULLEST."
