I had one of those moments today where I saw a VW and I was like, "gosh, I see those everywhere." This is probably because several people I know just got VWs and I've learned more about the brand in the past several months. Subconsciously, my antennae are looking for VWs without me even realizing it.
Similarly when you learn a new word and then suddenly you hear it all the time. Were people not using the word before? No. Simply now you are detecting it. You are now aware of the word and your mind is picking it up.
Then I thought, maybe this could be applied to positive psychology and counting your blessings (see previous blog entitled Counting to 1000). What if we tuned our minds to pick up the positive frequencies? What if we began to condition ourselves to look for the good in people? What if we woke up each day looking for the rainbow in the clouds? What if we counted our blessings? We just might begin to see them popping up everywhere.
It all has to do with awareness. With the VWs and a newly learned word, it wasn't that they just all of the sudden magically appeared (life is not a conspiracy like The Truman Show!). The cars were always there, the word was being used, you just didn't pick up on it. You were oblivious to it.
So chew on that. What areas in your life can you heighten your sense of awareness? By tuning your mind to look for and detect the positive, your life might get brighter all of the sudden. It's all in the way you look at it.
Whatever is TRUE,
whatever is NOBLE,
whatever is RIGHT,
whatever is PURE,
whatever is LOVELY,
whatever is ADMIRABLE,
if anything is EXCELLENT or PRAISEWORTHY,
think about such things.
