Captain David Lyon is one of those shining stars. Although his family, friends and countrymen laid him to rest today, he will continue to shine brightly. His legacy, his love, his life, his smile live on.
At 0030 in Afghanistan, we were honored to watch and worship at Dave’s memorial service.
As I've said before in trying to write about Captain Lyon and his life, words just don't suffice. How do you capture the sparkle in his eyes, the warmth in his smile and the confidence in his step? You don't. I can try, but please know that Dave Lyon was and will continue to be bigger than words--he is
BIGGER THAN LIFE.
His heart of gold captured people from far and wide. He was a man of consistent character always investing in others. He encouraged each person he met to achieve their best and develop their God-given talents. He genuinely took an interest in other people. Dave embodies the quote from William Wallace in Brave Heart:
Every man dies. Not every man lives.
Dave, we know you no longer live here. You've graduated to a better life in heaven. Until we meet again, continue to be the mighty warrior you are. We love you!
Rest in peace. We salute you.
