Well what if our spiritual muscles work the same way--the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets? What if we need to start doing spiritual bicep curls?
I had two knee surgeries three weeks apart in October 2012. I knew I had a long road to recovery ahead, but didn't know how long. I thought I had a good deal of Patience already, but have since learned, I had a weak Patience muscle.
Now I see Patience as a muscle. The more I exercise it, the stronger it gets. My Patience muscle is stronger and more toned NOW than it was a year ago.
The more I thought about this, I realize nearly everything is a muscle--good or bad. Fear is a muscle. So is Anger. Envy. Jealousy. Hate...The more I give in to these mindsets and attitudes, I'm making them stronger. Every time I balk in front of Fear, it's like I've just done a Fear bicep curl. I've made it stronger, not weaker.
Think about it: what muscles are you exercising daily? What muscles are you feeding instead of starving?
Look in the mirror and ask yourself what needs to change. Take a good look at your spiritual muscles. What needs some toning up?
Change your mind and change your life! Perspective is very powerful--so are the thoughts we think.
We are physical and emotional beings. Don't just focus on your physical muscles. Dedicate time and energy on developing and growing your spiritual muscles. Starve the bad. Feed the good!
