For some people "chilaxing" (a mix of chilling and relaxing) comes really easy, but for others, it's a chore. It's something we have to work at. We have to write it down on our planners--"relax," "spend time with friend," "watch a movie"... Some of you are laughing and thinking, "omg that's ridiculous. I can't believe that." But there are other readers who know exactly what I'm talking about.
We are goal-driven. Productivity focused. Analyzers--is this activity drawing me closer to my goals? We constantly ask ourselves how we are measuring up. Am I doing what I need to be doing to get where I want to go?
This "go get em", conquer the world, become all I can be mentality can be excellent, but it can also be a downfall. When too focused on that, we miss out on so many opportunities to just enjoy and BE. Be with those we love. Be in nature. Be still. We must learn how to turn this strength on and off. There is a time to work and strive, but there is also a time to let go, laugh and have fun.
So that's what I've done the past two days. Yea it feels awkward. It feels weird. I sort of "coach" myself through it as I fight against the feelings of guilt and "omg, I'm falling behind. What am I doing? I'm out of my routine!" feelings.
But on the other hand, the freedom I've given myself the last two days to just do whatever I wanted and veer off routine, has been great! I spent time with people I love. I got to deepen some friendships. I ate good food. I got some Vitamin D in the sun. I tried new things. I did things I don't usually do and I loved it!
So with that, do something out of your ordinary routine tomorrow. Drive a different route to work. Eat something new (not the boring cereal you have each morning). Try a new coffee drink at Starbucks. Talk to your neighbor. Write a card to a friend... Whatever it is, do something new and different. Out of the ordinary for you!
Get in the routine of doing something spontaneous, out of the box everyday! Try it and see how it makes you feel!
