By the words you say. Your words are powerful. They are like explosives, bombs, firecrackers--whatever analogy you want to use. They can be used for good or ill. You decide. The ball is in your court.
We all know the old adage:
Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me.
This is powerful! And also scary.
I don't know about you, but I blow it all the time. I say what enters my head and blurt it out knowing I just cut the person down. I threw them some trash when I could have given them a treasure to hold onto.
We all know first hand what it feels like to be hurt with words. This is part of the world we grow up in. Our bodies get hurt and can heal, but when words hurt us, sometimes those wounds bleed for years after.
So don't be cavalier with your words. Choose them wisely. Know that you hold a very powerful weapon--one that can be used for good or ill. You have the power to Lift Up or tear down. What will you do today?
